This project aims to ensure the viability and longevity of Le repos Saint-François d’Assise, while meeting growing demand from bereaved families. This type of grave is consistent with the standards and practices of today’s funeral traditions.
Construction of the new mausoleum-columbarium is part of a an 11-phase mausoleum-columbarium master development plan that the City of Montréal approved in 1999.
This vast development plan stems from a desire on the part of Le repos Saint-François d’Assise to meet the needs and requests of its customer base, in keeping with its mission to listen to bereaved families.
It is also part of a long-term plan to ensure the perennity of Le repos Saint-François d’Assise, a century-old institution.
No, no zoning changes are required to complete the project. In 1999, Le repos Saint-François d’Assise obtained all necessary authorizations from municipal authorities. The project reflects our vocation as an institution.
The applicable standards and regulations, as well as the spaces described in the master plan, have not been modified since the plan was submitted. The master plan remains fully compliant, and the project as originally planned is still feasible.
The work phases established in the 1990s were designed to harmonize infrastructure at Le repos Saint-François d’Assise in keeping with the standards set by the City of Montréal and urban planning bylaws.
Work on the project began in spring 2021 and will be spread over a two-year period. The new L’Espoir I La Speranza mausoleum-columbarium is scheduled to open in June 2023.
As the project is of a private nature, we are not required to disclose the sums invested. This major project will allow Le repos Saint-François d’Assise to pursue its mission in the Montréal community for many years to come.
By offering a burial site that meets the needs of today’s families, the new mausoleum-columbarium fits with our core mission of honouring the memory of those who have left us.
For many years now, Le repos Saint-François d’Assise has been meeting the needs of the bereaved without regard for and in full respect of different faiths and beliefs.
Our website will report on our progress, and you can write to us at infotravaux@rsfa.ca. We’ll be available and ready to listen throughout the project.
Fencing will be installed. and extensive access controls will be deployed, with guards on site to ensure safety at all times during the work and at specified periods.
The managers overseeing the work on site are long-standing suppliers with whom we have a good track record of collaboration. They are very familiar with our requirements and work with the utmost respect for our vocation. We make sure that everything is handled with care for Le repos Saint-François d’Assise families and visitors and for nearby residents.
Out of respect for the bereaved, visitors and local residents, Le repos Saint-François d’Assise is sensitive to this type of concern and pays particular attention to it. Le repos Saint-François d’Assise is a place of rest and contemplation, and will remain so.
Yes. Allowing access to the premises for activities such as walking, cycling or running is in line with Le repos Saint-François d’Assise’s desire to contribute positively to the quality of life of people in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough by providing beautiful secondary routes and paths. We simply ask users to respect bereaved families and the sacred nature of the site.
The work will be carried out in a way that fully respects the environment and ecological heritage of the site. We intend to preserve the trees and flowers and are also planning to plant between 100 and 125 additional trees around the building.
