HELP: Surname of the deceased

Please note that upper and lower case letters, accents, cedillas and hyphens in the deceased’s first and last names will not affect the search results.

For example, Garneau will give the same results as garneau or GARNEAU, Sansfaçon will give the same results as Sansfacon and Bédard will give the same results as Bedard.

Enter the full surname if you know it, or just the first few letters if you’re not sure of the spelling.

Women are registered under their maiden name. If you don’t know the maiden name, enter the first name in First name of the deceased, and enter the spouse’s surname in Spouse’s surname.

You can perform an advanced search using the asterisk symbol (*). The asterisk can be inserted to replace the part of the name you don’t know. For example, if you’re looking for a surname that starts with "Bi" and ends with "ette" but you’re not sure how to spell it, you could try bi*ette or bi*et.

HELP: First name of the deceased

Letters can be entered in either upper or lower case. For example, Pierre will give the same results as pierre or PIERRE.

It makes no difference whether or not you use accents or cedillas in the first name. For example, Irène will give the same results as Irene and François will give the same results as Francois.

You can use a space or a hyphen to search for a compound first name. For example, Jean-Pierre will give the same results as Jean Pierre.

Enter the full first name if you know it, or just the first few letters if you’re not sure of the spelling.

You can perform an advanced search using the asterisk symbol (*). The asterisk can be inserted to replace the part of the first name you don’t know. For example, you’re looking for a first name, but you only know that it was “P-something,” and that the name ended in “ette” (like Pierrette or Paulette). You can try: p*ette or p*et.

HELP: Spouse’s first name

You can use a space or a hyphen to search for a compound first name. For example, Jean-Pierre will give the same results as Jean Pierre.

Enter the full first name if you know it, or just the first few letters if you’re not sure of the spelling.

HELP: Spouse’s surname

Letters can be entered in either upper or lower case. For example, Garneau will give the same results as garneau or GARNEAU.

It makes no difference whether or not you use accents or cedillas in the first name and surname. For example, Sansfaçon will give the same results as Sansfacon and François will give the same results as Francois.

You can use a space or a hyphen to search for a compound first name. For example, St-Laurent will give the same results as St Laurent.

Enter the full surname if you know it, or just the first few letters if you’re not sure of the spelling.

Women are registered under their maiden name. If you’re looking for the name of a loved one but don’t know her maiden name, enter her first name in Spouse’s first name, and enter the spouse’s surname in Spouse’s surname.

You can perform an advanced search using the asterisk symbol (*). The asterisk can be inserted to replace the part of the name you don’t know. For example, you’re looking for a surname, but only know that it was “Bi-something,” and that the name ended in “ette” (like Biette or Billette). You can try: bi*ette or bi*et.

How the search tool works

To carry out a search, enter the appropriate information. Do not enter anything in a field if you don’t know the answer. For first and last names, enter the full name if you know it, or just part of it.

The more information you add, the more precise the search will be. You can also omit certain information to obtain broader results.

Here is an example of a search

If you know your grandmother’s maiden name (David, for example), enter it in the "Name of the deceased " field. This will yield 415 results.

To reduce the number of results, enter her first name in the "First name of the deceased" field. You’ll get 18 results and can easily find your grandmother’s name.

NOTE : If you have any issues during your search, click on the circled question mark (?) for help finding a deceased person.

Please note that women are registered under their maiden name.

Deceased:
